The Problem

Located on the small island of Siladen, clean water is in short supply due to poor groundwater. With local water being difficult to find for the local people, fresh water needs to be shipped daily from the mainland at high expense.

Project Updates

  • Feb 2014

    • Site where the new tanks will be installed. A few project facts:

      • Access to clean drinking water for the 130 families on Siladen
      • Three water tanks that hold 9,300 liters of rainwater
      • One water filter assembled from local materials including sand, charcoal and crushed rock
      • Educational training for villagers to maintain the filtering system and maintenance of the rainwater catchment system
      • Implementation of an education program into the school itself so the children have a full understanding of how the system works and how they may use it on a daily basis
  • Aug 2014

    • Local team members are working at the Siladen Elementary School to help install new rainwater cistern tanks that will provide clean water for the students and the local community.

  • Sep 2014

    • The finished water tanks have been installed at the Siladen School in Indonesia.  The large cisterns will provide much-needed fresh water to the students and the local community.  Huge thanks go out to the volunteers who worked with Learn to Live Global to take this project from a paper sketch to a working solution.
